Lasting Change: Are you believing this lie? (Part 3)

"So I say to you, keep asking and it will be given to you. Keep searching and you will find. Keep knocking and the door will be opened to you.” (Luke 11:9, HCSB)

After all my flop, with my not so intentional trip to Superstore, I realized living this word of the year business might be a little more uphill than I thought. And, I was going to need more help than I thought. For me, old habits die hard and it was obvious that it was going to take more than just pulling up my bootstraps to live intentionally throughout the day... and the year!

But there is this lie we so often believe. And it takes up space in our hearts and minds where truth could be planted instead.

The lie is this: it's up to me.

We apply this to any number of things, but often, to our spiritual growth. Jesus saved me, but I'm supposed to have it from here. Can I just say this? No you are not. .

We grow up in Christ; we never grow out of him.

And because we never grow out of him, it's never just up to us. But there is something that is up to us; asking him for help. My daughter is doing online school this year and from day 1, we've told her, "If you get stuck, it's not up to you to figure it out on your own, but it is up to you to ask for help."

So, before you get busy pulling up your word-of-the-year-bootstraps, remember this from last week– BELIEVE that the Word He has given you is the Word HE is going to accomplish in your life. (Isaiah 55:10-11 from last week!)

And this week? PRAY the Word that He has given you for this year.

Keep asking Him to accomplish it in your life. Keep searching out His character, His Word, and keep knocking on the door asking him to do what only He can do in and through your life.

God, I ask that you would refine me this year. Use this word you've spoken over me to accomplish that you desire in my life.

Next week, we will talk about LIVING it out!
